This atmospheric pastel captures a dramatic sky at sunset or dusk over a marshy or riverside landscape. Billowing clouds in shades of deep blue, gray, and golden yellow are dramatically reflected in the still water below, creating a luminous and poetic effect. The loose, textured handling of pastel is characteristic of early 20th-century French landscape artists influenced by Impressionism.
